We’re looking for brilliant problem-solvers who are passionate about tackling complex problems.

We’re looking for brilliant problem-solvers who are passionate about tackling complex problems.

The admissions process

We’re committed to delivering a fair admissions system that admits students of outstanding achievement and potential, irrespective of their background.

We understand that academic grades are only one part of an applicant’s story. That’s why we don’t set a minimum bar in terms of grades, but instead look at every applicant’s academic attainment in the context of their educational, familial, and personal background. We want to understand what our applicants have achieved academically given their starting point. It’s also why we invite all eligible applicants to an online Selection Day interview.

Applicants apply to us directly – this means that LIS can be an additional option alongside your five UCAS choices. The Office for Students has said that LIS can award its BASc degree in Interdisciplinary Problems & Methods from 2021. The high regulatory standards mean that LIS’ degree is fully comparable to any other university in the UK.

Our admissions process

01 /03

Apply

We welcome applications from all subject backgrounds, whether you've specialised in STEM, the arts, or humanities. We don't set a minimum bar for grades and all applicants will apply directly to LIS.

Interview

All eligible applicants will be invited to a Selection Day which will consist of two online interviews to assess your problem-solving abilities along with your passions and mindsets. You don't have to prepare; just be yourself. It's a chance for us to get to know you, for you to get to know us, and hopefully to learn more about yourself along the way.

Offer

We will award offers after your Selection Day interview. Before making an offer decision, we’ll look at each individual’s application holistically and on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration your performance during the online interviews and your academic grades in the context of their background

What you need to know

Key information

We do things a little differently, so we’ve listed the key information you need to know when applying.

Minimum entry requirements

Students must be at least 18 years of age by the end of the first academic year after enrolment at LIS. Don’t worry if you don’t meet this age requirement – you can always apply to future cohorts. Simply send us an email (hello@lis.ac.uk) and we’ll keep you updated.

Qualifications

We welcome A-levels, Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers, Irish Leaving Certificate, Welsh Baccalaureate, French Baccalaureate, German Abitur, Italian Maturita, and International Baccalaureate. Please get in touch if you are unsure whether your qualifications will be accepted.

International students

An international student is someone who does not have “settled” status in the UK and would need to apply for a visa to study in the UK.

We have received a sponsorship license which means we are able to welcome international students onto the course. Please get in touch if you have questions about your status in the UK or your application as an international student.

All non-Home students will be asked at the point of application to complete an additional step, which is the completion of a short personal statement on why they are applying for the LIS programme. Non-Home students who are successful in passing this step will then be invited to a Selection Day.

English language requirements

The LIS degree is taught in English. To derive full benefit from and succeed in passing our degree, you must be able to understand and express yourself in English (reading and listening, speaking and writing). If you’ve been taught and assessed in English or have been working in the English language for the past two years or longer, you do not need to provide an English language qualification.

If, however, you have not been attending a school where classes, coursework, and assessments were conducted in English for the past two years or longer, or if you have not been working in the English language for the past two years or longer, you will be asked to specify any English language qualifications that you hold. We will also ask that you email a copy of your qualification transcript to admissions@lis.ac.uk

All English language qualifications must be no more than two years old to be valid.

If you have not been taught and assessed in English for the past two years or longer and do not have a valid or current English language qualification, you will be required to sit an English language test.

Regulation

LIS has been granted degree-awarding powers by the higher education regulator in England, the Office for Students (OfS).
